Skype, Online and Phone Counselling Perth
Victoria Kerr (formerly Morrissey)
Perth Counsellor & Psychotherapist
Technology is a part of everyday day life for many of us and keeps us connected and accessible to others which comes with many obvious pro's and con's however when it comes to accessing counselling and therapy, Skype, online and phone counselling have become very real and effective alternatives to attending face to face counselling sessions. Counselling sessions can be carried out over skype, email and phone to assist with a variety of issues.
Advantages of skype counselling
There are many advantages to skype counselling;
- A therapy session can be organised and carried out anywhere in Australia or in the world
- There is less pressure to make additional time for travel, parking, childcare etc
- The skype call is free
- Skype is very convenient and can be access from your phone, ipad (or tablet), laptop or desktop computer
- It is private and confidential
- Suitable for individuals and couples
- You can access help and support for issues quickly (without waiting until you have returned from overseas for example)
- You can see a therapist of your choosing regardless of where you live
Phone Counselling
Phone counselling, similarly to skype, allows you to access a counselling session from anywhere in the world without travelling long distances to see a therapist. The sessions are private and confidential and clients are able to access help and support that they may otherwise miss out on if unable to travel to a face to face counselling appointment.
While phone counselling does allow the counsellor to hear your tone of voice, body language is unable to be observed so there is some useful information that can be missed. For those who struggle to express themselves verbally, phone counselling can be difficult.
Online counselling via email
The obvious benefits to online counselling via email include anonymity and privacy (in that you do not have to have a conversation out loud). If you have a difficult issue that you would like to share, questions that you would like answered or strategies you would like to be provided with, this can be done via email relatively quickly and easily.
There are clear limitations in counselling via email so this option is not suitable or helpful for everyone. The therapist is unable observe your body language or hear your tone of voice therefore a large portion of information which is noticed and useful in face to face counselling or therapy is missed.
How to arrange an appointment for Skype, Phone or Online Counselling
Making an appointment for a counselling session is a relatively easy process;
- Send an email briefly outlining the issues that you would like to address during your session
- Provide a range of days and times that would be suitable for you
- Your therapist will be make contact with you via phone or email confirming your appointment
Fee's and payment details
- Fee for a 45 minute skype or phone counselling session is $150
- Fees for an online counselling session can vary but initial contact is $100
- Payment can be made into a bank account prior to the session and receipt forwarded via email or text before session begins or a credit card can be processed prior to the session commencing

Privacy and confidentiality
- Skype, phone and online counselling appointments are private and confidential just as a face to face counselling session would be
